The Initiative ProDialog

The Initiative ProDialog is a Berlin-based, non-partisan organization whose overall objective is to strengthen the dialogue between government, civil society, and business. It was initiated by Deutsche Post AG which still supports its work financially. The Initiative's main goal is to find and discuss new ideas of fostering political participation and civic education.

Initiative ProDialog offers an extensive expertise on strengthening democracy in Germany. First, it established itself as a unique forum for encouraging civic engagement. This was achieved by bringing renowned stakeholders in politics, business and civil society together to discuss, analyze and take action on fostering political knowledge and participation. To this end, the Initiative ProDialog organizes academic and professional conferences where leading international experts exchange their ideas on how to boost political participation and civic engagement ("International Symposium for Democracy").

Second, it aims to improve the political dialogue by advising NGOs and political parties on how to find more direct and interactive ways to communicate with voters, volunteers, members, donors and policy-makers.

Third, Initiative ProDialog uses its expertise to run campaigns strengthening civic education and participation. It regularly conducts non-partisan GOTV efforts to increase voter-turnout. In 2009 the Initiative organized a nationwide voter-turnout and voter-education campaign ("Die Demokratiebotschafter") to strengthen political participation in the German general elections. The campaign was honored with the Pollie Silver Award 2010 by the American Association of Political Consultants.
